"For truth to be known, for science to be possible, there must be a coherent reality that we are seeking to know." ~ The Resurgence
"Cosmos is a Greek word for the order of the universe. It is, in a way, the opposite of chaos. It implies the deep interconnectedness of all things.” In this seemingly harmless definition of the entire structure of Sagan’s work, he assumes that the universe under investigation by science is a cosmos rather than a chaos. He speaks of cosmos 'implying a deep interconnectedness of all things.' This is the grand presupposition of scientific inquiry, namely, that the universe we are seeking to know is coherent. There is an implied deep and profound interconnectedness of all things. The alternative to cosmos, as Sagan has indicated, is chaos. If the universe is at root chaotic, then the whole scientific enterprise collapses. If the universe is chaotic and disconnected, then no knowledge is possible at all. Even discreet bits of atomic data cannot be understood within the framework of utter chaos, so the presupposition of a coherent, rational order of all things is the screaming presupposition of scientists." ~ The Resurgence

"Many members of today's black church attend because their parents, who introduced them to Christ and the church, are believers---believers themselves who are the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren of slaves and freedmen who went to church because they believed in a God who would free them from slavery just as he freed the children of Israel from Egypt. My grandfather, great-grandfathers, and great-great grandfathers, all humble, land-owning (but not well-to-do) farmers, had no ambitions or motives for being churchgoers other than to please Christ, their faithful Lord. The same could be said for the faith of millions of African Americans who preached, prayed, sang, and gave their monies so that their children might follow in the faith as free members in the land of the free." ~ Gospel Coalition
“I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” ~ C.S. Lewis (The Weight of Glory)
"Every man’s way is right in his own eyes,What do you consider when making conclusions?
But the Lord weighs the hearts." ~ Proverbs 21:2 (NASB)
"There are limits to the effect of sport on life. At the same time, in those moments when you're on the court, it's all reduced to these bursts of energy, and you're testing yourself and you can make some connections, and some beautiful things can happen inside those lines.
Another example is what happened out in Washington State, when the softball player hurt her knee and the girls decided to carry her (profiled in "The Way it Should Be"). That cost them a run, but people all around the world were inspired by such a simple act of decency. It was only a game, but in the moment, it was bigger than that, and when you find such moments, it can be really exciting to tell the whole story." ~ Thomas Lakehttp://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgc/2012/10/02/the-finest-young-sportswriter-in-america/

"I would say that as Christians we don’t believe in coincidence. God is sovereignly in control of all things at all times, so in that sense there is never something that “just happens”. As far as “divine intervention”/”providence”, it would therefore ALWAYS be at work, but our ability to understand it and all of the facets of God’s sovereign plan is ridiculously limited. I think that sometimes we think we see parts of it, but its complexity is more than our human brains can fathom. We do have a few cases where God “shines a light” on history and explains His purposes (the book of Habakkuk is a great example – he asks God “why” and God specifically answers), but that’s not usually the case. We can understand some purposes sometimes, but for the most part we’re limited in our human brains in what we can understand of God’s purposes and plan and therefore the reasons and results of divine intervention." ~ Pastor Greg Vruggink
